Russel began his investment career at Citigroup Asset Management in April 1999 before joining Invesco to work with Mark Dowding and Raphael Robelin in 2000. He achieved a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Economics and Journalism from Rhodes University in 1995 and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management from the University of Cape Town in 1996.
